Oak Park School of Music Promotional Video

The Oak Park School of Music is an independent music school in Oak Park, Illinois offering in-person and virtual private lessons and group classes in a wide variety of instruments. During my tenure as Operations Manager, I had the opportunity to produce a promotional video for them, including planning, shooting and editing video, interviewing, writing the script, and recording and editing the voiceover.

The video can be seen here, on the Oak Park School of Music home page, or on YouTube.

Wedding Design

When my wife and I had our wedding in 2021, we wanted our designs to reflect the joining of two distinct and uniquely beautiful cultures.

This began with what we referred to as the “Celtic Shuang Xi.” In Chinese, shuāngxǐ (literally “double happy”) is the name of a symbol created from the character for the word “joy” written twice to imply double happiness and is commonly used as an ornamental design for weddings. In Celtic culture, the sailor’s Celtic knot features ropes woven together to create an infinite loop as a symbol of enduring love and friendship and is also used frequently in wedding imagery and design.

The Celtic Shuang Xi uses the Celtic sailor’s knot as the material from which the shuang xi is created. This design was used as a logo for the wedding and was featured in most print materials.

Michael McSweeney Design Logo

The logo for Michael McSweeney Design pays homage to my background as a musician in the context of modern design. When sound is produced, it emits sine waves that can be seen on certain recording devices or in recording software such as the one pictured below on the right. Using my first and last initials, MM in a font called Jonathan, I recreated a visualization of two sine waves out of phase (not lined up) with each other with a modern horizontal line depicting the x-axis (labeled t for time below) of the graphed waves to represent both my initials and my background as a musician.
